Unit 7: Growing up

Coming of age is a young person's transition from childhood to adulthood. The age at which this transition takes place varies in society, as does the nature of the transition. It can be a simple legal convention or can be part of a ritual, as practiced by many societies.

This unit you are going to have to prepare a project about a "Coming of Age" ritual/ ceremony in another culture. 

Below you will finde the instructions and some ideas on rituals or ceremonies. READ THEM CAREFULLY before you start working. 

Option 1: Oral presentation

About the tradition/ceremony:

-         - Tradition’s name (1pt)

-         - Where does it take place (2pt)

-         - Since when (1pt)

-         - Who takes part of it (2pts)

-         - Description of process (6pts)

-         - What’s the objective/purpose of the tradition (3pts)

-         - Special elements (clothes, food, etc) (3pts)



 Formal requests:

-   Correct use of passive voice (at least 4 times) (4pts) 
- Information presented in a logical order (3pts)

-  Subject knowledge (3pts)

-  Visuals clearly related to presentation (2pts)

-  Posture (attitude, eye contact) (2pts)

-  Fluency, pronunciation (2pts)

-  On time (2pts)

-  Collaborative work (2pts)

-  Use of class time (2pts)


     Option 2: Poster / Diorama

     About the tradition/ceremony:

-          - Tradition’s name (1pt)

-          - Where does it take place (2pt)

-          - Since when (1pt)

-          - Who takes part of it (2pts)

-          - Description of process (6pts)

-          - What’s the objective/purpose of the tradition (3pts)

-          - Special elements (clothes, food, etc) (3pts)

-          Appearance and attractiveness (3pts)

-          Visuals clearly related to information (2pts)

-          Style and organization (2pts)

-          Mechanics (spelling – typos) (2pts)

-          Collaborative work (2pts)

      Option 3: Recreation
